Taxi men to check luggage in security crackdown
THE Uganda Taxi Operators and Drivers’ Association (UTODA) has stepped up security in both the New and Old taxi parks in a bid to fight the rising crime in the city. TODA officials now check passengers’ luggage to avoid the transportation of arms by robbers, said Hajji Musa Katongole, the association’s Kampala chairman.
Katongole’s revelation came after Kampala RDC Alice Muwanguzi decried the escalating wave of crime in the city and asked UTODA to join the Police in the fight against crime. This was during a Road Safety Campaign launch at Nsambya Sharing Hall on Tuesday.
“We need to live in a secure city. We do not want to have a situation of insecurity in Kampala like it was with some of our neighbours,” she said.
