Arusha: 12 people are known to have died after a small gold-mining pit collapsed on Sunday in Tanzania's northwest, officials said on Monday. The mine collapsed on Sunday near the southern edge of Lake Victoria, about 90km west of the town of Mwanza. A regional commissioner in Mwanza, James Nsekela, said on Monday that rescue workers were still trying to extricate the bodies.
