Sharjah - Police in Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) arrested on Wednesday a German doctor of Arab descent for performing hymen reconstruction surgery and illegal abortions. Police investigations indicated that the 61-year-old gynaecologist carried out the surgery to restore broken hymens for about US$1 000 dollars, according to a police statement.

Metz - A French gendarme who made women colleagues undress in his office so he could take their measurements got a three-year jail sentence on Wednesday for sexual assault and abusing his position. The court in the eastern city of Metz heard that Thierry Moegen pretended he was conducting a survey on "women in the police force" and asked young women to come to his office where he told them to undress and proceeded to measure their bodies.

HARARE - A Zimbabwean man has been jailed for two years after he sold urine to residents in a mining town claiming it was cooking oil, a state daily reported Thursday. The Herald newspaper said Piccard Mudzingwa, 28, approached one of the victims at a bus terminal in the southern mining town of Zvishavane selling bottles containing a liquid he said was cooking oil.
