Kitante - Kampala In his congratulatory message to the Uganda Golf Club (UGC) board of trustees upon the centennial landmark, the President noted that golfers had played an important role in maintaining the environment and ensuring that people stay in good health. “There is no way you can boost tourism without golf. My government and I pledge support to the game of golf. We will put up infrastructure to develop the game and will work towards maintaining them,” read part of the President’s congratulatory message in the Centennial Magazine shown to journalists during a press briefing held at Kitante yesterday. During the press conference to launch the Centennial Week celebrations, the arrival of over 28 foreign golfers from six countries was confirmed. They will start arriving in the country on Monday to take part in several events to join the club, which is celebrating 100 years of existence. According to the captain of the club, Dr Joel Okullo Odori, golfers are expected from Rwanda, Kenya, Tanzania, Burundi, Malawi, and Zambia for the festivities that start with the centennial tournament on Sunday March 9. The week-long festivities will involve a series of tournaments featuring the professionals, ladies, corporates, juniors, and seniors. |
