Harare - Levels of organised violence and torture have escalated dramatically in the last fortnight in Zimbabwe amid mounting tensions over the country's disputed elections, a coalition of doctors said on Friday. "Since the last report on 25 April, our members have reported a dramatic escalation in incidents of organised violence and torture with the number of victims documented in the post-election period now standing over 900," the Zimbabwe Association of Doctors for Human Rights said in a statement.

The trial of a former Rwandan minister, who allegedly coordinated the killing of Tutsis, began on the 6th May 2008 before the United Nations war crimes tribunal set up to deal with the 1994 genocide in the small African country. , former Acting Minister of Interior from April-May 1994 mr Callixte Kalimanzira is charged with genocide, complicity in genocide and with direct and public incitement to commitment genocide, and pleaded not guilty to all three counts in November 1995.

Diesel fuel shortages that started to escalate in the latter part of this week are expected to ease considerably with supplies coming into the country this weekend, the Energy Ministry said Friday.
The scarcities were occasioned by multiple factors but mostly by a Middle Eastern Super Tanker that developed problems en route at sea and failed to dock at the port of Mombasa, East Africa’s main sea gate.

Kampala: Police have arrested 639 drivers and impounded 2,620 vehicles in an ongoing traffic police operations to crackdown indisciplined drivers and vehicles in dangerous mechanic condition in Kampala.
Another 1,134 motorists are yet to be taken to court for traffic offences. In the operation which started on March 31, police also impounded over 1,324 motorcycles, statistics from Traffic Police Department show.

Theft and lose of cargo at Entebbe International Airport’s cargo area will now be minimised with the installation of 43 Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras.
The cameras installed by Entebbe Handling Services Ltd (ENHAS) in all its operational areas, will monitor movement of human beings, imports and exports at the busy transit bonds, which are prone to malpractices.

The Muljibhai Madhvani Foundation has since increased its scholarship funding from shs 400 million to shs 450 million to cope with the overwhelming demand of needy students and the rising tuition fees at higher institutions of learning.
“This increase of funds is important because we receive so many applications every year,” the Chairman for the Madhavani scholarship committee, Henry Kyemba said, adding,” over the years tuition fees has also been going up.”
