The President , while unveiling the cup, emphasized what the trophy symbolised especially to the Kids in Uganda. New Sleeping Sickness Drug unveiled in Kampala

Nifurtimox-Eflornithine Combination Therapy is the first new medicine in 25 years against a disease that affects 60 million people in sub-Saharan Africa, the Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative (DNDi) group said in a statement.

Uganda attracting the highest foreign investment in Eastr Africa

The report by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTD) showed that Uganda’s FDI grew from $733million to $787 million  between 2006 and 2008.

Bolt smashes 100m world record in Berlin

usain_bolt.jpgJamaica's Usain Bolt shattered his own 100 metres world record to win the World Championship final in Berlin in a breathtaking 9.58 seconds. Bolt took a staggering 0.11 seconds off the 9.69 mark he set winning gold at the Beijing Olympics a year ago . In contrast to the Olympic final when he was able to coast over the line, Bolt was pushed hard on the blue track at Berlin's Olympic Stadium.

MUK to admit more students after low initial take up

Water, and Juice makers on mandatory registration

THE Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) has started mandatory registration of all makers of bottled water and juice. Meeting the manufacturers at Hotel Africana in Kampala, the standards body announced the introduction of a safety mark (S-mark) to appear on all products that meet minimum safety requirements.

The incident occurred in the coastal resort of Malia, a popular destination for young British travellers that is also a hotspot for alcohol-fuelled antics.

malaba_uganda.jpegMalaba, Uganda:  Scammers have targeted a town on the Uganda-Kenya border with an elaborate fraud - setting up a fake bank and taking deposits, before fleeing. The bank opened an office in Malaba town, advertised on radio and took $100,000 in deposits. But when investors turned up to reclaim their money, all they found was a note saying: Sorry the bank operations have been moved to a new place. The note did not say where.

Lufthansa Airlines back in Uganda since the 70s

air_cargo_5.jpgKAMPALA, Uganda The Ugandan Civil Aviation Authority has granted permission to Brussels Airlines to add a Lufthansa code-share flight number to their own for the four times a week service between Brussels and Entebbe. This will, other than for some one off occasional cargo flights in the past, be the first scheduled Lufthansa flight number to Entebbe since the airline withdrew from Uganda in the heydays of notorious Ugandan dictator Idi Amin in the early ‘70s.

ARV treatment found to protect against malaria in Uganda

World's oldest man Dead

St Dunstan's care home in Ovingdean, near Brighton England.  Allingham died early Saturday. He was one of only two surviving World War I veterans in Britain and had been the world's oldest man since June 19.
