Obama picks former rival to be Commerce Secretary
Chicago - President-elect Barack Obama named New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson as commerce secretary on Wednesday, placing a second former campaign rival in his new Cabinet. Obama called Richardson a leading "economic diplomat for America. During his time in state government and Congress, and in two tours of duty in the Cabinet, Bill has seen from just about every angle what makes our economy work and what keeps it from working better".
 
HIMA CEMENT PRODUCTION TO DOUBLE BY 2010
Hima Cement has started expansion works that will see it doubling its production capacity by 2010.
According to the General Manager, David Njoroge says the plant is expected to increase production capacity from 350,000 tons to over 830,000 tons of cement which will increase the ability of Hima Cement to meet local demand.
 
Uganda Opposition members defect to the NRM
Over ten members of the Opposition have crossed over to ruling National Resistance Movement. The members made the turn at the party’s campaign rally for the position of MP in Kyadondo North constituency in Nabweru led by President Yoweri Museveni for its candidate Robert Kasule Sebunya.
 
Busoga's 'Kyabazinga's election not legal - Museveni
The election of the Busoga Kyabazinga was in contravention to a Constitutional Court injunction, so the government does not recognise him as Kyabazinga, President  Museveni said when he met leaders from Busoga.

 
UGANDA INFLATION ON THE RISE
UGANDA'S annual inflation has risen to 14.9% in November. October's inflation was 14.5%. The increase in inflation has been attributed to increased food prices, the Uganda Bereau of Statistics has said.
