The Uganda Govt is to embark on an ambitious project to create 100,000 jobs mainly in the road and building construction this financial year. This was announced by finance minister Syda Bbumba
The jobs will range from local suppliers of construction materials, engineers, designers, masons and road builders. The Government has allocated sh1.2 trillion for road construction the coming financial year, making it the single most funded sector. Almost 400km of national roads will be rehabilitated and over 1,000km upgraded to tarmac. Most of them are in the northern and eastern parts of the country, to ease the transport of people and goods to Kenya and Southern Sudan. Roads to be tarmacked in the east include Kapchorwa-Suam, Muyembe-Namalu-Moroto, Jinja-Kamuli, and Tororo-Mbale-Soroti. This should boost trade and open up business opportunities for the districts bordering Kenya as well as speed up imports and exports from and to Mombasa. |
