Srinking Editorial independence blamed for quiting of New Vision Editor.
els_de_temmerman.jpgThe former editor-in-chief of the New Vision,  who resigned on Friday, has blamed the company for abandoning editorial independence.
In a statement she issued late on Friday, Ms De Temmerman said she was assured editorial independence upon taking up the job nearly two years ago. “Reluctantly, however, I have concluded that I can no longer count on the assurances I received when I accepted the job and so I must resign,” she wrote.

The New Vision Printing and Publishing Company, publisher of the New Vision newspaper, was founded by the ruling NRM government in 1986. The company is publicly listed on the Uganda Securities Exchange but with the government still owning a 53 percent stake in it.

Ms De Temmerman’s departure came a couple of days after it emerged that three other top managers had resigned, some of them forced. Human Resource Manager Carolyne Mboijana, Production Manager Rachel Namuli and Circulation Administrator Margaret Wamweta all resigned on Wednesday.
