Kenya floods displace over 6000 people
floods_4.jpgGeneva - The UN says around 6 000 Kenyans have been driven from their homes by flooding and thousands more have lost livestock and crops. The UN Office for the Co-ordination of Humanitarian Affairs says floods from heavy rains in the northeastern district of Mandera displaced 6 000 and left 3 people dead.

Spokesperson Elisabeth Byrs says some 150 000 people in the town of Mandera are at risk from disease outbreaks because flooded latrines have contaminated water sources.

Byrs told journalists in Geneva on Tuesday that flooding in the northwestern district of Turkana has affected over 7 500 people and left 16 missing. She says one person was killed in the floods, caused by heavy rains this month.
