Uganda Government Asked to regulate food export
bananaprogramme.gifThe parliamentary forum on food security, population and development is calling on government to regulate food exports to South Sudan amidst food scarcity in Northern Uganda . Their call comes as Uganda joins the rest of the world to celebrate the world food day this Thursday the 16 th of October.

This year's world food day national celebrations will be in Tororo district under the theme world food security the challenges of climate change and biodiversity. The day comes as over 80% of the people in Uganda live in rural areas and on agriculture. This has made Uganda a food basket for east African countries and south Sudan .

However, the high food prices farmers enjoy in South Sudan has had an adverse impact on the country's food security. This has prompted the forum to demand for more practical food and nutrition policies to reduce on the country's decency on Food aid from AID agencies.

The MPs also want the issue of access to market, rural infrastructure as well as increase to agricultural inputs addressed.

This year's world food celebrations come as the world is facing climatic challenges where human activities are to blame. The years have become warmer since 1995 yet not all governments have taken efforts to limit the damage.

Just yesterday, the minister for disaster preparedness Musa Ecweru reported that lack of food in Karamoja alone is worrying. He reported that people there depend on food aid, but charity organizations are also threatening to pull out.
