| Muhwezi grilled over robbery |
 Kampala - Uganda's former health minister, facing trial for embezzling Aids vaccine funds, has been summoned by police over a recent bank robbery, a state-owned newspaper said on Thursday. "The police are interested in talking to me," Jim Muhwezi told the New Vision newspaper.
Six suspects, including Muhwezi's driver, have been charged with
assault for trying to steal $500 000 (about R4.2m) from the Stanbic
Bank in Kampala last week.Muhwezi's aide and a business associate are also among those accused of trying to fraudulently transfer $3.8m from the same bank using forged documents. The former health minister and his two deputies are being tried for allegedly stealing $1.63m from a grant from the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunisation. - SAPA                |
