Kano - Seventeen people were killed on Saturday in an armed robbery in northeastern Nigeria's Adamawa state, a witness who survived the attack said. A group of around 20 armed men raided Ganye cattle market, close to the border with Cameroon. "They killed 17 people, including seven local vigilantes guarding the market," Abdullahi Ardo, a cattle trader who survived the attack told AFP by telephone. He said the men fired at random into the crowd before making off with huge sums of money belonging to the traders. "We received a report of an incident in Ganye cattle market which was attacked by some armed men but we still don't have details of casualties," Adamawa state police spokesperson Attine Daniel told AFP from the state capital Yola. Ganye cattle market, the largest livestock market in northeastern Nigeria, attracts traders from Nigeria and Cameroon. |
