| President Museveni begins Kabale PFA tour |

They reported that the The President was addressing a public rally yesterday at Kibirizi, Kamwezi sub-county in Rukiga county Kabale district on the first day of his one-week long Prosperity for All tour of the district. Mr. Museveni said that the culprits will be imprisoned. He clarified that government has the task of providing school buildings, salaries for teachers and textbooks while parents have to provide packed lunch to their children. He highly commended the people of the area for their ardent support to the Movement government over the years. The President who welcomed over 50 FDC members who crossed to the NRM noted that the people of Uganda suffered untold agony in the past because of bad leadership. The President expressed happiness over the outstanding achievements realised by the people of Uganda under the NRM government. He noted that among the achievements are modern permanent school buildings that are a great incentive to student’s academic pursuits. Mr. Museveni praised the people of Uganda who have committed their efforts to enhancing their household incomes. He urged wananchi to emulate those Ugandans who have set good examples in the struggle to eliminate household poverty. President Museveni advised people in Kabale district who have small pieces of land to grow apples, oranges and other fruits, embrace fish farming and keep dairy cows. He advised the people of Kamwezi sub-county to embrace tea growing because the crop does well in hills and helps in soil conservation as well as controlling soil erosion. Mr. Museveni announced that Kabale district will benefit from a Shs.5.3 billion through the Prosperity for All Programme adding that Shs.120 billion will be channeled to farmers through NAADS. He cautioned elements who discourage wananchi from establishing SACCOS on the pretext of land titles from them. The President also told another rally at Kantare Primary School, Kashambya sub-county that he is out in the countryside to help the people of Uganda commercialize agriculture in order to develop further the national economy. He said that the fight against poverty is tailored to ensure that every adult Ugandan is able to earn good incomes so as to make subsistence production a thing of the past. The President commended the people of Kashambya sub-county for their support to the Movement government. He told them that their support has been rewarded with development programmes such as UPE, USE and PFA, peace and security which he said are a compelling factor to investment. Mr. Museveni advised the people of Uganda in rural areas to invest in agriculture in order to be able to realize good financial returns like people in urban areas who perform clerical work and get employment in industries and services. He called on the residents of Kashambya sub-county to embrace SACCOS as a strategy of saving and borrowing funds at low interest rate in order to improve production and marketing of their products. He assured them of government commitment to funding SACCOS if they perform well. The President called on them to use their wetlands in a way that ensures environment conservation. He assured them that electricity will soon get to their area from Muhanga via Rwamucucu. Earlier, the President visited 2 progressive farmers who have done well. He commended Mr. Rutaro of Kyeroro who earns Shs.24 million annually from apple, grape and dairy farming among others. He donated a solar water pump to him to help him in irrigation. The President also commended Mr. Rwamagyenda who grows bananas, inter-cropped with avocado, mangoes as well as dairy farming. He donated a bull to him and asked NAADS officials to assist him grow pineapples and apples since he has a big chunk of land. |
