Kampala City scrap yard destroyed by fire |
Heapfuls of scrap worth millions were destroyed by fire in Kisenyi, in kampala. Arsonists have been blamed for the fire that stated at midnight sunday morning. The fire brigade arrived at the scene but was unable to save the stores. Police have since arrested a man identified as Khalid who is helping them with their inquiries
“We have lost a lot of property in this fire. Most of the scrap loses
value after being burnt,” one of the scrap dealers, Joseph Obara, said.
The officer in charge of crime at Muzaana Police Station, Frank
Turyasiima, said they would continue to investigate the matter. Scrap
metal is currently on high demand in the country as farm equipment and
household utensils are often made out of scrap. A tonne of scrap goes
for about sh400,000.(£150)
