Sudan to stop using Uganda phone code
mulira_ham_mukasa_dr1.jpgThe using of Uganda's international telephone codes is to end in October, Parliament has been told. “We have been informed by the Sudanese government that in October, there will be no need for them to use our 256 telephone code,” the information and communication technology minister, Ham Mulira, has said

He was responding to questions raised by MPs during a debate on his ministry’s budget for this financial year.

The MPs were concerned that Sudan was using Uganda’s code for free.

Mulira explained that in 2006, South Sudan asked Uganda to use its code temporarily.

He added that uganda telecom connected South Sudan on the code.

“It is not accurate to say that the code is for free. The operators have interconnection charges,” Mulira argued.

Ruth Tuma (NRM), the chairperson of the parliamentary forum on children, asked the minister to set up an international children’s help-line as requested by rights activities.
