President Mwai Kibaki orders Opening of Mombasa Port for 24 hrs.
kibaki-oginga_1.jpgPresient Kibaki has ordered Mombasa port to order and process moving through goods for 24 hours instead of the previous 12 hours a day. This follows a barage of complaints from neighbouring countries including Uganda whose goods go throught the port.

Businessmen and neighbouring states praised the move as courageous and forward thinking.

“President Kibaki has today directed the implementation of a 24 hours, seven days a week service delivery at the port of Mombasa,” a statement said late on Monday.
“All the relevant government organs have one week to fully implement the directive.”

Kibaki and Raila Odinga, now prime minister of a coalition government, also announced the removal of unnecessary police roadblocks, where transporters say they suffer major delays and are forced to pay bribes.
