cholera_1.jpgAt least 17 locals had been confirmed dead in cholera related infection in the Eastern district of Paliisa

For the 3 week running, the epidemic now blamed largely on bad sanitation management has reportedly claimed the lives of mainly children and women.

Poor water sources, irresponsible disposal of feaces and direct consumption of food at funerals without prior washing of hands is said to be behind the increasing deaths.

According to the Chief Administrative Officer for Paliisa Moses Omoding, the situation is getting worse, because of the continued movement of infected people has been difficult to control.

By mid- week, Omoding says 3 isolation and treatment centres had been set up in the sub-counties of Ayule, Buseta and Kasodo to contain the deaths.

District officials say the entire Health Centre 3s to-date do not have protective gear, personnel and beddings to accommodate those diagnosed with cholera.

According to a report following week-long assessment by Action Aid in Paliisa district, over 264 households have been affected by symptoms of cholera. Of these 329 people, it is mostly y children and women that are directly affected.
