Five killed in Jinja highway crash

Five people died instantly and another was rushed to Mulago hospital in critical condition when a fuel tanker heading to Kampala collided with a Isuzu pick up at Kigunga, on Kampala-Jinja highway. The dead have been identified as Suudi Kyazze the driver of the Isuzu pickup, Ntambi Samad, Charles Lukabwe James Zirabamuzaale among others.
This accident has occurred at about 2am Friday morning at a sharp corner which is believed to be one of the black spots on this road. The spot is full of pot holes which have been the cause of many accidents in the area. About 15 people have died at the same spot since the begging of the year.

Police says both drivers were trying to avoid pot holes yet they were both traveling at high speed. The isuzu canta was destroyed beyond recognition and only the engine could be identified at the scene.

All the occupants of the pickup died and for the trailer, the turn boy died on the spot but the driver was rushed to hospital though chances that he will survive are slim.

The car owner of the pickup, Bashir Ziraba says it had processed coffee worth 30 million that was being taken to Kangulumira in kayunga District.

As is always the sad case with accidents, people instead took all the coffee while the rest feasted on the fuel from the trailer. Police had to struggle to stop these people from accessing the area.
