| Uganda Police warns scrap metal traders |
|
Addressing the dealers on Kirinya Road on Tuesday, district Police commander Chris Barugahare warned that buyers of stolen metal would be prosecuted. “It is important that you deal in genuine scrap, not stolen property. If found with such items, you will be arrested and charged in court,” he told the dealers. He noted that some people were destroying useful property such as railway sleepers and electricity cables to sell as scrap. We won’t wait for disasters to happen before we act,” he said. This has been prompted by the sudden increase in prices of metal tempting the people to steal. Metal billboards and highway signs have also fallen prey to these dealers. |
