| Uganda Cabinet approves dual citizenship bill |
|
He was responding to a question from Nakaseke MP Rose Namayanja (NRM) on what steps the Government had taken to ensure that Ugandans acquire dual citizenship status. Namayanja said the Constitution provides for dual citizenship but the law had not been operationalised. Kasaija said in November 2005, the Cabinet approved offices which should not be accessible to persons holding dual citizenship. But he did not reveal the offices. The Constitution also allows a foreigner to acquire Ugandan citizenship and retain their citizenship. |
