| Rural Ugandans to benefit from BICs |
|
Kampala: Ugandans living in remote districts that have spotty or non-existent information and communications technology (ICT) facilities will soon have broader and more reliable access when the Business Information Centres, BICs project, now underway, is implemented on a larger scale. BIC is being executed by the Ministry of Information and Communications Technology with financial and technical support from Microsoft and the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation, UNIDO and is intended to bring “demand-driven, fee-based ICT services,” to ordinary people. In much of rural Uganda, internet is virtually non existent, depriving people of an opportunity to access vital information from the worldwide pipeline of knowledge. The Centres will be established in municipalities. |
