Uganda DNA tests cause Increased Family break ups
dna_machine.jpgFamilies are breaking up as a result of DNA results, released from the Government analytical laboratory in Wandegeya. The government laboratory has run out of reagents to serve more clients, due to the overwhelming demand.

A DNA machine was commissioned in the country for the fist time mid last year, and since then a number of families are reported to have broken up due to shocking revelations.

The introduction of DNA services to the country last year brought hope to many, particularly children who were not sure of their biological parents. But  many are now using the service to test their children and many are finding out that they are not the biological fathers.

The acting commissioner for the Government Analytical Laboratory, Ally Lugudo, reports that many people who have dragged their families for the paternity tests end up heart broken.

Although families and individuals are first counseled before taking the test, some of them abandon their families afterwards.

Unfortunately, as people continue seeking DNA services, materials required for the tests have run out. The materials were used up on tests to identify the true identities of the bodies of the children who died in the Buddo fire.

Ally Lugudo however assures the public that more reagents are expected in three weeks time. The service is offered free of charge to the poor such as housemaids, the disabled and street children. However well to do families, seeking the true identity of their children pay about 400,000 shillings.
