President Museveni spoke angrily on the rising racial segregation and religious fundamentalism in the world, calling the extremists “idiots” who must be shunned.

 “Racism is idiocy,” Mr Museveni said. “Why should one worry about the color of other people?” he wondered, “That is a stupid problem because we now know [through archeological discoveries] that all the people in the world–-Europeans, Indians, Americans and Chinese --are ex-Africans.”

He criticized Whites and Coloureds for looking down upon Africans - the first human race - and carrying themselves as more important than other human beings.

“The biggest problem in the world is self-centredness,” he said “Many people are selfish and do not think about other people.

Delegates to the annual symposium, which was attended by Mr Reinhard Buchholz, the German ambassador to Uganda, were drawn from Lion District 411 member countries-Ethiopia, Seychelles, Kenya, Tanzania and host Uganda.

Lions Club International is a worldwide charitable movement with 1.3 million members in 202 countries committed to serving the less fortunate members of society through humanitarian works mainly in health, environment, education and disaster management.

Mr. Museveni said by selflessly serving disadvantaged people without discrimination, Lions Club International was promoting the virtuous notion of unity in diversity and being a neigbour’s keeper as commanded by Jesus Christ.
