Katumwa Sports to make Footballs

katumwa.jpgKATUMWA Sports Centre plans to start manufacturing footballs in Uganda. “Production is cheaper here and hopefully in five years, we shall have a factory in Kampala.

“I have land in Gayaza and my partners in Nagasaki are willing to bring in machinery,” Katumwa stated. The $2m (about sh3.5b) investment will be made after studying the markets in the region.

Katumwa will target Rwanda, DR Congo and southern Sudan markets when they start manufacturing balls in Uganda.
The centre, in partnership with Cobra Sports Industry, Japan, have also made ‘Katumwa’ brand of footballs, basketballs netballs and volleyballs.

The Katumwa brand is expected to be more appealing to the local market.
“It’s not just the name but most importantly these balls have been manufactured specifically to suit the tough conditions in Africa.

“Our pitches and courts are rough and maintenance is poor and yet people take too long to replace balls due to financial problems.

“These durable Katumwa balls come in handy for our people,” explained managing director, David Katumwa.
Katumwa offers one-year guarantee but the balls could last over two years depending on handling. Over 10,000 balls we brought in October and 700 have already been sold off.
