|
The Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) has appointed Sheikh Siragye Kavuma the new secretary general. Kavuma replaces Dr. Edris Kasenene, who has served the council for seven years, in addition to one year as acting secretary general.
According to the UMSC constitution, the secretary general’s term lasts seven years, Haji Nsereko Mutumba, UMSC’s spokesman, said.
Sources last week said the Mufti, Sheikh Shaban Mubajje has been
mobilising sections of Muslims not to nominate Kasenene for another
term.
Kasenene, Mubajje and businessman Hassan Basajjabalaba, are facing
charges of fraudulent disposal of council property, and conspiracy to
commit a felony. Kavuma will remain acting until the general assembly approves him.
