Museveni calls for harmonization of development

museveni6.jpgOpening CHOGM summit, Museveni pointed out that ther was a direct link between the level of industrialization per capita income and human development indicator. Museveni used figures and said countries like UK, Canada, Austria and New Zealand had shifted from agriculture to indoctrination and services which has translated into higher income, low child mortality and higher life expectance.

"The present partial transformation of the commonwealth countries is not good enough for individual countries nor is it good for commonwealth in general or wider world.” He said

He also pointed out the reasons for the unequal development amongst countries, the lack of market for the produced goods, other strategies needed for transformation were stimulating private sectors-led-growth, adding value and exporting the raw materials instead of finished goods. He gave an example that the kilogram of coffee bean is 1 dollar but after production it costs 20 dollars per kilogram that means Uganda donates 19 dollars per kilogram of coffee been exported to outside countries

He also gave the factors that bring about development, through education for all, improved health, hygiene, nutrition, accessibility and behaviour change in relation to AIDS prevention, good infrastructure that lowers the cost of doing business as well as peace and political stability that is for transforming from agriculture to industrialization.
